Situated just a few steps from the sumptuous and oldest temples of Paestum, the historic center of Capaccio is often overlooked by those who come to Capaccio Paestum. And yet here, amongst many palaces, portals and ancient lanes, you can spend a few hours discovering the history of this wonderful area and stopping to admire the lovely views of the Gulf of Salerno with the island of Capri in the background.

The "Capaccio Nuova" foundation, as it was defined, is later than that of Caput Acquis, or Capaccio Vecchia, and would derive from the destruction of Capaccio Vecchia by Federico II of Svevia.

In the historical center, with alleys, squares and glimpses that overlook a picturesque panorama, visit the Church of San Pietro Apostolo, the Salone Rizzo Tourist Office and the convent of Sant'Antonio. It is also possible to see the clock tower or civic tower, fifteenth, which was originally the bell tower of the church of St. Peter and which after a collapse was transferred where it is now, and the fountain of the three dolphins, baroque style, built between the end of the seventeenth century and the beginning of the eighteenth century.

The Archaeological Park of Paestum

Poseidonia-Paestum offers the visitor a unique opportunity to "read" its millenary history through the monuments that have crossed the time.
The three temples with their altars, the main square of the Greek city (agora) with its symbol buildings such as the heroon's grave and the circular structure for the assemblies (ekklesiasterion), are the most obvious signs of the ' inhabited in its Greek phase.
With the arrival of the Romans the temples are under no change, but new structures are being built in the city: the Forum, the political and commercial space, the Amphitheater, where the Gladiators and Animals duels were held, and the Campus where the Romans practicing in sports.
In the pool, women practiced rites in favor of their fertility.
Very large were the living quarters with the many aristocratic houses, including the one with a pool of about 2,800 sq. M.
